Eliza Jones

Eliza Jones

Eliza Jones is Koyukon Athabascan and a speaker of the Central dialect of the Koyukon language. She was born in 1938 in Cut-Off, raised in Husila, and currently resides in Koyukuk. Mrs. Jones has studied and taught her Native language for over forty years and worked at the Alaska Native Language Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks from 1973 until her “retirement” in 1990. She returned to Koyukuk to continue teaching. Her many accomplishments as a translator and writer include co-authorship of the Koyukon Athabascan Dictionary. She also served as an exhibit advisor for the Living Our Cultures exhibit. [Last updated in 2006]
