Ignatius Kosbruk

Ignatius Kosbruk

Ignatius Kosbruk was born in 1917 in Perryville, where he lived until he passed away in 1999. He learned Sugpiaq language, culture and history from his father George Kosbruk, an acclaimed storyteller known as the “Katmai Chief” in Perryville. Mr. Kosbruk shared his Native knowledge with many writers and researchers and helped to compile an Alutiiq dictionary with linguists from the University of Alaska. He was a hunter, fisherman and trapper known for sharing generously with his family and friends. [Last updated in 2006]
