Ron Brower, Sr.

Ron Brower, Sr.

Ron Brower, Sr. is a whaling captain, artist, life-long resident of Barrow, and speaker of the North Slope dialect of Iñupiaq. Mr. Brower’s professional positions have included President of Ukpeagvil Iñupiat Corporation, Founding Director of the Iñupiat Heritage Center and Vice-President of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference. He is a grandson of the Yankee whaler Charles Brower, who settled in Barrow in the 1890s. Mr. Brower is as Iñupiaq language instructor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. [Last updated in 2013]
