Oscar Koutchak

Oscar Koutchak (Oyahuk) was born in Unalakleet in 1930, one of nine children, and lives there today. His mother was also from Unalakleet, and his father was from the Mary’s Igloo area. He is a respected tradition bearer, active subsistence hunter, and speaker of the Qawiaraq dialect of Iñupiaq language. [Last updated in 2006]
